How to fit Big Tower heatsinks in Cosmos S

Postby madspec on Fri May 30, 2008 11:16 pm

Hi all !!

Ok , when i got my Cosmos S i was really upset cause i could not install my Thermalright 120 eXtreme Heatsink . So i decided to mod the case just a little so i would be able to use the Cosmos S and My Thermalright .

First you need a Dremel or something that does the same job

And at the end , the Heatsink does not touch the fan anymore

Hope this helps people like me who have Huge Tower Heatsinks !!

The pics that show 'how' you did this are not visible, can you fix this please :D .
The fitting of a TRUE is the only thing keeping me from getting a cosmos s (i was waiting for the revision, but somehow there is no news on that).

Will the Thermalright fit in a vertical orientation without the mod?

I mean if the heatsink and fan are oriented with the fan blowing towards the top exhaust fan, instead of to the rear exhaust fan.

You have to cut even more . But ne carfull , the 200 mm fan is really cheap , breaks for absolutly no reason .

And i find that the fans at the top dont do the job reall good , i dont know why but the meshe on the top doesent let the air go out easaly . i would recommend using the bask fan for the cpu cooling .

Bummer but thanks for the reply, I might just have to move the fan to the outside of the panel. Then I would have to either cut the modders mesh on the side and maybe...

1)mod in a 10" subwolfer grill.

2)replace the entire pop out on the side with a piece of nylon or other stretchy breathable material.

3)build a custom carbon fiber insert using my broken fan, door, and plastic insert wrapped in wax paper as templates.

:rr:

Or you can also rotate the default orientation of the fan so that the flat part is positioned horizontally and would allow the TRUE120ex to fit.

to fit the Scythe Mugen-2 in, i ended up rotating the fan to the flat part on top and madspec's mod to clear the end of the heat pipe. remembering this thread kept my Cosmos S from going airborne last night.
